STUDIO CLASSES
Focus Your Training. Build Your Skills
WHY STUDIO CLASSES?
Musical theatre requires a lot of different specific skills
—and those skills take time to develop.
Studio Classes give students the opportunity to choose the areas where they want to grow and spend an entire Academy year developing them.
Students can take one Studio Class or combine several to create a training program that matches their interests and goals. Meeting one hour each week from September through June, Studio Classes provide 30+ hours of focused instructionover the course of the Academy year. A year of growth. That consistency gives students time to learn technique, practice it, build on it, and see real growth.
And focused training doesn't mean boring training! Our skilled teachers understand that students learn best when they are challenged, encouraged, engaged—and having fun. Studio Classes combine purposeful instruction with the energy, creativity, and community that make students want to keep learning. Studio Classes are a full-year commitment, allowing teachers and students to build skills progressively throughout the year.
STRENGTH, ENDURANCE, & DANCE TECHNIQUE with Ashley Miller
Train Stronger. Dance Longer.
You don't have to have started dancing at eight to become a strong dancer at eighteen.
Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30
Starting SEPTEMBER 10
Ages 9 - 18
This class is KEY to moving forward in dance....
especially for students who have not had the benefit of growing up with studio training.
Musical theatre choreography requires more than simply knowing the steps. Performers need the technique, strength, control, coordination and stamina to execute those steps well—and still have enough breath left to sing!
But learning dance technique can be difficult when you didn't start young. Traditional studio classes build skills progressively over many years, and by the time a student reaches their teens, joining a beginner class can mean learning foundational skills alongside much younger dancers. This class is designed to bridge that gap. Students can learn the dance fundamentals they may have missed, while working and advancing at their own skill level and pace alongside other musical theatre performers.
Through dance technique, conditioning, flexibility, core strength, coordination and movement training, students will develop cleaner, stronger and more confident movement while building the physical endurance needed for auditions, rehearsals and increasingly challenging choreography.
Whether you're filling in missing fundamentals or ready to push your existing skills further, the goal is individual progress: better technique, greater strength, safer movement and the tools to keep advancing as a musical theatre dancer.
TAP ATTACK
with Melodie Bredo
Make Some Noise. Build Some Skills.
Ages 12 - 18
Starting SEPTEMBER 10
Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30
Tap is rhythm, coordination, musicality—and a whole lot of fun!
Tap Attack develops timing, rhythm, footwork, coordination, clarity, speed, and musicality while introducing students to tap vocabulary
and increasingly challenging combinations.
Students learn more than how to memorize a tap routine. They'll develop the technique to pick up choreography, understand rhythms, and become more confident tap dancers—an incredibly valuable skill for musical theatre performers.

CLASSICAL BALLET with KAREN MILLER
Build the Foundation Behind Great Dance.
Tuesdays 4:30 - 5:30
Starting SEPTEMBER 8
Ages 12-18
Ballet provides the technical foundation that strengthens almost every other style of dance.
Under the instruction of Karen Miller, students will focus on proper technique, alignment, posture, balance, flexibility, strength, control, and classical ballet vocabulary. Consistent training helps students develop greater body awareness and the clean lines and disciplined movement that translate directly into stronger musical theatre dance.
Whether a student's goal is ballet or Broadway, classical training gives them a stronger foundation to build upon.
TRIPLE THREAT MUSICAL THEATRE
with Jeannette Manser
Act. Sing. Dance. Put It Together.
Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30
Ages 8-18
Starting SEPTEMBER 8
No prerequisites
A "triple threat" performer can act, sing, and dance
—and this class is about developing all three.
Throughout the year, students work with scenes, songs, and choreography from musical theatre while receiving focused instruction in each discipline. Rather than preparing one full production, students have opportunities to explore different material, characters, featured roles, and performance styles.
Triple Threat is a place to experiment, be challenged, receive coaching, and become a more confident and versatile performer.
LEARNING TO HARMONIZE
Go Beyond Singing the Melody.
Tuesdays 5:30 - 6:30
Starting SEPTEMBER 29Ages 9-18
Learning to hold your own vocal part while other people are singing something completely different is one of the most valuable—and challenging—skills a musical theatre performer can develop.
Learning to Harmonize helps students train their eyes, ears and voices to confidently sing in multiple parts. Through exercises and songs, students work on pitch, intervals, listening, blending, independence, balance, and holding a harmony line within an ensemble.
Students move from hearing harmony, to finding it, to confidently maintaining their own part.
It's challenging, incredibly satisfying—and a skill that can make a young singer much more valuable in an ensemble.
Classes take place at Davenport Church of Christ
