Here are a few things to be aware of: 

1.)  Classes listed with a * have prerequisites.  Please read the class description for details before registering.

2.)  We have taken big strides towards further developing our 100-level classes so as to really lay a solid educational foundation for 200-level classes and beyond. If you have a question as to whether you meet the prerequisites for a class you’d like to take, please email the Cornerstone Artistic Director:  Stephanie Orr at  s.orrcytcentralalberta@gmail.com

3.) Remember to list your second choice of class!

4.) Attendance in your Cornerstone Class is a prerequisite for show participation.  If you miss more than 2 classes, your show role may be affected.

Families - there is a mandatory information meeting on the first day of class for your student and an accompanying adult.    Meeting is from 4:30 to approx. 5:30 - Students are dismissed to class at about 5....adults remain for a friendly Q&A.

Foundations of Drama   D100  (ages 8-18)  
Teacher:  Aidan DeGraff
Become a character from head to toe. Explore the building blocks of acting through creative movement, story enactment, theater games, imagination journeys and more! You'll be able to use your whole body, voice, and facial expressions to portray everything from a swashbuckling pirate to a oompa loompa. Create your character from scratch and perform in scenes like Chronicles of NarniaTreasure Island,  Alice in Wonderland, and more.

Foundations of Voice V100  (ages 8-18)
Teacher: Penni Petriko
This dynamic beginning voice class will cover all elements of good singing techniques. Students will receive training in how to use their voices correctly and how to have a confident audition. Emphasis will be placed on proper breathing and support. This important class is for everyone who has ever wanted to sing correctly and well!
*Students are exempt from this class upon verification of 6 months of private vocal instruction


Little Rascals   LR99   (ages 6-7)  
Teacher:  Rachelle Hunt
Let your imagination take flight into the world of theater through song, music and dance. The fun never stops in "Little Rascals" and includes theater basics while learning the foundations of performing in a safe, encouraging environment. We also take time for fun with games and crafts. Let your child take the spotlight!
This age group is not eligible to audition for the session production.

Accents and Dialects  D200   (ages 12-18)
Teacher : Amanda Bulger
Prerequisite:  Foundations of Drama
*if you have taken all three Foundation Classes, you make take this class at any age.
Unlock the voice of your character and broaden your acting abilities. You'll be able to portray every accent from a British gentleman to a Southern belle. Advanced skills will include proper vocal placement, diction, breathing, articulation, inflection and more.

Benchmarks:
  • Students will be able to produce a variety of accents including proper British, Cockney, New York, Southern, German, and others
  • Students will learn how to create a "character voice."
  • Learn proper vocal placement, resonance, and diction

Broadway Workshop     V200   (ages 8-18)
Teacher : Ashley Miller
Prerequisite:  Foundations of Voice and Foundations of Drama

This lab-based class will explore the audition process, acting, dancing, and singing through current Broadway shows.  This class is a chance to work on your vocal technique, no matter your skill level. Not only will this class will improve your vocal control, range, tone and endurance, but it will cover topics like finding and supporting the acting values in a song, interpretation of character, harmonizing, and freestyle rap!

Whirlwind Dance Tour    M300 (ages 8-18)
Teacher : Tori Grebinski
Prerequisite: All 3 Cores Classes

UP FOR A CHALLENGE? (emphasis on challenge - this will be a workout from start to finish!)Take a whirlwind tour through the world of dance. This class focuses on discovering many different styles of dance, learning a new discipline each week. Styles may include Ballet, Hip Hop, Bollywood, Modern, Interpretive, Affrican, Musical Theater, Fosse, Jazz, Latin and others. Be ready to get your groove on in this fast paced tour through creative styles of dance and movement.
